How to measure for a sofa: wall, doors, lift and stairs
Measure the wall, the doorway, the lift and the stairs before you order a sofa, plus how to size a corner sofa and use the length slider.

How do I measure the wall for a sofa?
Measure the wall the sofa will sit against from corner to corner, at sofa height rather than at the skirting, because walls are rarely perfectly straight and skirting boards can add a few centimetres at the bottom. Write the number down in centimetres.
Then subtract what you want beside the sofa: 30 to 50 cm on each side if you plan a side table or a lamp. What is left is the longest sofa the wall can take. If the wall has a socket, a radiator or a window sill at sofa height, mark those too, because they decide how close the back can sit.
How do I check the doors, lift and stairs?
Measure the narrowest point on the whole route, from the street to the room: the building entrance, the lift door and the inside of the lift, every door frame, and the width and turns of the stairs. A sofa that fits the room can still be stopped by a stairwell corner.
Measure the clear opening, not the door leaf, and write down width, height and the depth of any landing where the piece must turn. A sofa is carried on its end or on its side, so what matters is the depth and the height of the sofa against those openings, not its length. The delivery team carries the piece to your room, so tell us about lifts, stairs and any restrictions in the order notes.
- Building entrance and main door: clear width and height
- Lift: door width and height, and the inside width and depth
- Stairs: clear width, headroom and the size of each landing
- Apartment door and the doors on the way to the living room
How do I measure for a corner (L-shaped) sofa?
Measure both walls of the corner, and the depth of the chaise side you will leave free. A corner sofa has two lengths, the long side and the chaise, so you need two wall measurements instead of one.
Leave at least 75 cm of walkway in front of the chaise. L-shaped sofas at Enzo can be ordered from 250 to 350 cm on the long side, in a left-hand or a right-hand layout. Decide the hand by standing in the room and asking which side the corner is on.
How can I check the size before I order?
Mark the sofa on the floor with masking tape or newspaper at its real length and depth, then stand in the room and walk around it. This is the quickest way to feel whether the size works, and it shows you how much space is left for the door to open.
You can also see the piece at its true size on your phone: open the 3D view on a product page with the 3D · AR label, tap “View in your room”, and the camera places the sofa at the length and fabric you chose.
What are the most common measuring mistakes?
The most common mistakes are measuring the room but not the route, measuring only the length and forgetting the depth, and measuring at the floor instead of at sofa height. Each one is easy to avoid with ten minutes and a tape measure.
Also remember the door swing, radiators and curtains that hang low, because a sofa that fits the wall can still block a door that has to open.
- Measure at sofa height, not only at the skirting
- Write down length, depth and height, in centimetres
- Check the route as well as the room
- Leave the walkway before you add the side tables
How does the Enzo size slider work?
Every sofa has a slider that moves the length in fixed steps, and the price updates as you move it. Across the sofa range the length can be set anywhere from 200 to 394 cm (each design has its own range), in steps of 25 cm on a sofa such as the Luna, so you choose the length to the nearest step instead of accepting a standard size.
One step on the Luna changes the price by about EGP 7,500, so a longer sofa costs more than a shorter one, and you see exactly how much before you order.
What if my wall is not a standard size?
If the length you need is outside the slider, or you want a different depth or height, send the measurements on the custom design page. A designer checks them with you before anything is built, so a wrong measurement is caught before production. Lead times are 6 to 8 weeks for sofas.
